My grandma in the center with her sisters after picking cantaloupes.

Great Grandma Krausse doing irrigation piping with her husband on their farm.

This is either my great grandmother, or grandmother... not sure, such a great shot though.

Horse BBQ????

I was watching a cooking show a few nights ago that I enjoy(ed) and to my shock they had a segment encouraging their viewers to consider HORSE MEAT as an alternative red meat source.

They had their on site reporter visit a horse farm in France where she proceeded to take a stroll in the corral and point out the horse she wanted to "try", a big beautiful chestnut work horse seemingly gentle as can be. So, they led him back to the slaughterhouse and then it cut to her back in England receiving a box at her doorstep full of different horse bits. Then she went on to cook some of it and exclaimed how amazing it tasted and how healthy is was for you and on and on and on and oooonnnnn.. I couldn't take it anymore!!! I was so upset. I really had no idea that horse meat had become such an acceptable source of food in Europe!

I am not a vegetarian and I don't ever plan on becoming one. I grew up on a farm where my family raised our own meat, dairy, fruit, and vegetables, and I understand what goes into raising an animal for meat. I just can't stomach (excuse the pun) horse meat. What's next?? the family dog?? It just sickens me to think of the treatment of such an intelligent and beautiful creature. It saddens me to know that tens of thousands of horses are shipped to Mexico and Canada annually from the U.S., where they are killed under barbaric conditions so their meat can continue to satisfy the palates of overseas diners.

I hope that I don't come across as I total nut job, ranting and raving.. It all just makes me feel really sad and helpless and I had to say my peace I guess. I think the more informed we can become about issues like this, the better.

Don't worry there's no shocking photos, just information.

Something I strive to live by.

Here there is no Greek or Jew, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Did You Know??

-That people with different wave patterns in their hair have different shaped hair strands? for instance, people with naturally straight hair have a round hair strand. People with wavy hair have an oval hair strand and people with curly hair have a flat hair strand.

-That on average a person looses anywhere from 40 to 100 hairs per day?

-That baldness does not come from the mother's side. It is genetic and can come from either side of the family.

-That no matter how often you trim your hair it will still grow at the same rate. Though of course the more you trim it, the healthier it will be.

-That on average, hair on a healthy scalp grows at a rate of a half inch per month.

-That every 4-5 years you have a completely new head of hair.

-That the technical term for gray hair is Canities (Kah-NISH-ee-eez).

-That Archeological studies reveal that haircutting and hairstyling were practiced in some form as early as the Ice Age.

The Wrestler

we watched the movie The Wrestler last night and it was sooo good.. and so sad. I very harsh look at the life of someone who had lived very selfishly for years and sort of pushed everyone he loved out of his life until he realized that he was old, sick, lonely and hopeless. and Even when he tried to make the things that he had broken better he couldn't.
Mickey Rourke deserves an oscar for his performance and I think Azuree and I shall start a foundation called Adopt a Wrestler!

My New Adventure

Well, I did it...
I went and took my placement test and I signed up and paid in full for my first semester of school for cosmetology at the community college down the street from where we live.
It's a big step for me and it feels really good. I am a perfectionist in many ways and a lot of times I don't do something because of the fear of not being as good as others or the fear of not being as good as I know that I could be. But I have wanted to take a step forward in living my life proactively and not being complacent. So I start next Tuesday! I bought a lunch box yesterday and I felt like a little kid again. Hmm..come to think of it, maybe I need to go pick out a first day of school outfit!
I'm a little concerned about my schedule though. I am going to be working from 10am-3pm and going straight to school and not getting off until 9:30pm on Mon-Thurs. That's almost 12 hr. days! I'm really hoping that there won't be any homework due during the middle of the week or I am going to be in trouble.. but I will try my best, and even if it is really crazy I will be graduating in a little over a year. I think it's worth it.

Christmas Preparations...

Some of the things that I've been up to in the last couple of weeks.  Making cards, decorating the tree, enjoying the snow and also some tulips that Trev brought home for me...
